Meredith Howell holds a M.A. in English Education from UNC-Charlotte and a B.S. in English Education from Appalachian State University, where she was a Teaching Fellow in the entering class of 2001.  In her nineteenth year, she has taught ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade English as well as AP Language, AP Research, and Holocaust Literature.  In addition, Mrs. Howell received National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult English Language Arts in 2009 and renewed in 2018. Notably, Mrs. Howell was named Stanly County School's 23-24 District Teacher of the Year.

Meredith’s favorite hobbies include running and exercising (mostly in chasing around the kiddos), washing her car, reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.  As a child, she prided herself on learning to ride a bike without training wheels at the age of three, conquering the original Mario Brothers game on the Nintendo, and learning and quoting--verbatim--the script to The Sandlot, The Goonies, Dumb and Dumber, and every Friends episode known to man.  With dignity, she deems herself a nerd.

Meredith is married to Eric Howell.  Together, they have a twelve-year-old daughter named Blake Alaina and an nine-year-old son named Reed Maddux. Three years ago, they also welcomed a four-legged chocolate lab fittingly named Cocoa. Residing currently in Albemarle, Meredith is a native of Stanly County.

As a writer, Meredith has honed her skills over time.  A product of the UNC-Charlotte Writing Project, she enjoys teaching writing to her students--as it is a major facet of her classroom.  In high school, she enjoyed writing personal and anecdotal stories, keeping a journal, and writing letters to friends.  She has absorbed much about grammar and style, drawing inspiration from one of her favorite authors, Sarah Dessen.  Through the years, she has developed a deeper love for writing because she has found purpose and importance in capturing moments in time through words.  Currently, she enjoys writing to and about her family.
