Teaching Philosophy
History continuously affects us, and we see the creation of more of it on an hourly basis. Who we are, where we are, and why we are as we are in the world are all dependent on factors from before our own time. The present is a conglomeration resulting from the events of the past. Students need to know how others affected the world so that they will know how best to affect the world for the better in their own right. My studies and experience have led me to conclude that even the smallest ripples a person makes can affect their life and the lives of others in great way. By teaching our students to critically study, discuss, and evaluate the past, they learn valuable skills and information that let them find their own way to make a mark on history, such as cooperation, higher order thinking, analysis, and evidence-based argument.
